A Very Happy Kidney and a Peaceful Night

Six o'clock labs this morning show Esther's creatinine to now be 0.88!! That is fantastic! The rest of her body has some catching up to do before it is functioning as well as her new kidney, but I have no doubts that she'll get there!

I had a sweet time with Esther early this morning at 3:30. She woke up from a good long sleep and was much calmer. The intensity level had been turned down considerably. She still had a very strong urge to ripe off all her wires and tubes and to walk out the door for home, but she was able to express it less frantically. She was talking with her eyes open, unlike most of yesterday, and she just looked so much better.

We had some lovely harp music playing and there was a peace and deep quietness about the room as we prayed together. I was able to make her more comfortable by massaging her dry, itchy arms and hands with some nicely scented lotion. She was back asleep by 4:30 a.m. and is still sleeping peacefully.

Our big goals for today will be to do some more walking and to get moved up to Baird 5.

This is the very best news (0.88)! Still keeping our prayers flowing. Those steriods.... got to take 'em cause they work, got to hate 'em cause of the side effects. I recall spending 3 or more hours moving hundreds of cards around on the walls at Abby's bidding. She just couldn't have them touch and they needed to be color coordinated! Drug induced Irritability oh yeah! You are doing great Esther everyday is one step closer to going home. The trees are turning and frost is on the way. What a Thanksgiving it will be! Our love to you both. Leslie

Nancy - you are the best mom ever. Who wouldn't sleep peacefully after having their mommie massage their arms with scented lotion?
hugs,
Kate

Thank you so much for taking the time to keep us informed... we checked in often over this week to see how you were all doing. Hope today went well... go Esther go, do those laps!

Nancy
Thank you so much for writing to all of us each day in this format. It has made it so easy to feel and visualize this complicated process. What a relief that the new kidney is working so well, that Katherine is already up and about, and that Esther is finally out of such pain and beginning her long healing process.
I have kept that photo of Katherine and Esther at the Champlain Fair on my computer while I am working so that I may visualize them as I pray for their healthy recoveries.
Many Blessings to you all,
Maggie Gundersen

Hello Sweet Esther,

We aren't sure the e mail link is still up and running so are posting a note here for your mom to read to you. We have been thinking of you all week! Allison is hoping to visit you Sunday evening but I will call your mom's cell phone first to see how you are feeling. Maybe you will be leaving FAHC by then?

Glad to hear from your mom that you are peeing! Always a good sign.

Love to all of you!
